Even at $50, the price is high. At the time, Popular Electronics had a
circulation of well into six figures, and a lot of hobbyists saved them.
$10-$15 per issue seems more like it to me, with $20-$25 for absolutely mint
copies.

Take a look at the bid history, and you will find two bidders fighting it
out. The price without the fighting looks like it would have been about
$50
or so. The bidding war just illustrates why it is not
a good idea to bid
your maximum bid early.
