Condider that on modern drives, R/W circuitry isn't all that simple.
You might have GMR heads, certainly have PRML read processing. The
other concern is that the heads and associated circuitry are likely
optimized for the denisty and recording mode. You're in analog
country, buckaroo, and things aren't digitally simple any more.
