Take a look at the original NeXT machines... the
fastest NeXT was a
33 MHz 68040 and it was very responsive.
Don't forget the DSP (56001) and custom blitter chip. I think the
blitter contributes more to responsive feel than anything else, because
it offloads a lot of the screen rendering work from the main cpu, and
screen rendering is a major contributor to snappy feel.
