Yes, it's a 9V "transistor radio" type.  Better use an alkaline--my
Programmer ate those things like popcorn.  OTOH, my HP16C is only on its
third set of batteries.
Don't toss them, by any means.  TI had a desktop model that could also
do hex.  The coolness factor was much higher.  IIRC, it was the SR-27.
