How do I break into a NEXT machine where I know no
passwords, root or
otherwise? Is it possible to make this machine usable or am I going
to have to wipe the drives and start over again?
Well, if all else fails you can pull the disk and put it on another
machine (not necessarily a NeXT), mount the filesystem there, and do
things like bash on root's password.
In principle, that is. Doing this demands software support on the
"another machine" that may not be at ready hand. But it's how I'd be
inclined to handle it.
