It doesn't actually use the VESA extention, on the MB, so your using the
slot as an ISA slot only. You are correct that the 1542B is 16-bit ISA.

In a VESA slot? Am I missing something here? The AHA-1542B looks just like any
16-bit ISA card to me, no VLB connector at all.
