It is probably the most common and least expensive way to get an ISA controller with
the National floppy controller. The combination of this controller and a Shugart SA851
disk drive seems to work REALLY well. I've only had problems with about a dozen of the
500+
floppies I've read with the setup so far and have had MUCH better luck with DSDD
media
than before.
You do have to make sure that the heads are kept clean, which is really easy on the 851
once you take the clear plastic plate off above the top head.
