Yeah, but in much the same way that the phone knows when you're taking a
bath, my cable modem knows when I'm planning to snipe and on at
least three
occasions decided to start resynching with the network about a minute
before the end of an auction I wanted.

I agree. There is absolutely no incentive to *not* wait until there
are 30 seconds left to go in an auction.
