Hmmm.. So the
5V line i nthe computer must still be present. And if
there's a short on the expanison board, then that 5V must be being
droipped somewhere. An this coupld mean a track has burnt out somewhere
(possibly on an internal layer of the expanison board.
I think that since I can see no visible signs of damage to the board and
providing that one of the caps isn't shorted, there is a dead track inside
the board. If that's the case it falls squarely into the category of
"BER".
i woiuld be suprised if the short was inside the board...
If you can eliminate the short (so that it would be possible to power up
the board), and yet there's still no 5V, I would try jumpering the 5V pin
on the host connector to the Vcc pin of the nearest IC and see what happens.
