2316 ROM. Probably overkill for the task, but a commodity part.
There's a copy of the schematic online, if you're interested. It
appears to be just photographs of the factory schematics, but it's quite
readable.
but then again the Intel parallel port IC (8255) was
broken as designed.
But then again, it was used all over the place. It's not *too* broken
if you avoid changing modes...
