BTW, it
isn't just the HP 1000...the same seller is listing a Nicolet
with the
same misleading (or accurate, depending upon your viewpoint) comparison:
Altair/IMSAI-like Nicolett computer
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=114499874
Like I said in my other posts, these are industrial computers that one
might find in labs, machine shops, etc. I guess they might have some
collectability, but they certainly don't have the collector value of a
*real* IMSAI or Altair (unless I'm missing something). Do you get the
feeling that our buddy over at Ebay has his thumbs on the scale, so to
speak?
Computers in the 'lab or machine shop' catagory are likely to be a lot more
interesting than a IMSAI or Altair. I can think of a couple in that
catagory I'd much rather have.
I think you're right, you're missing something. What does 'collector
value' have to do with this hobby? The proper assessment of an items
value is how much enjoyment you get out of it, or how useful it is to you.
As for the person listing the above. I note a couple things, one is that
it's pretty easy to tell if a computer is S-100 based. Two, is feedback
kind of sucks. Actually the guy's e-mail sounds familiar. Hasn't he
pulled simular BS on eBay before?
