Yes, they are, if you use the full binary code. That exists but it
isn't often seen. I do remember some IBM 360 binary card decks,
though.
Nothing like getting an answer a fraction of a second after asking the question (!)
I also just found the full 8-bit-binary punch pattern in my WATFIV FORTRAN
manual. (There are a maximum of 6 holes punched per column.)
You could even do 12 bits per column if the card punch
being used is
forgiving.
