Core Beads (was Re: 40k Ferrite Memory Core)

For logic use, do you need square loop material or transformer-type (low hysteresis) material? FWIW, In my desk drawer, along with some other arcane stuff,I've got a frame from what I believe was an old Philco system. Much larger and much much less dense than the "40K" module shown.
