Chris,
Actually, setting up MS LANMAN or client is pretty straight forward. I use
them on my DOS systems to map a disk drive to my vintage systems. Check out
MS KB Q122297 "Comparison of MS-DOS Clients for Windows NT Version 3.5" for
system requirements between the two clients.

You just need some network attached storage. I was sneakernetting things for
a while with my 5150, but I've now got a boot floppy setup with mtcp tools
so that I can get to ftp & telnet. What a difference that has made, being
able to move files back & forth without getting up. Sometimes I'll ftp a
file up to the server, edit it with emacs, and pull it back down just
because I don't have a nice editor on the PC. I'm still wondering if there's
a way to boot from a floppy and map a share to a drive letter on the PC.
There seems to be a lot of stuff involved to make that work.
