Where I need a real parallel port (e.g. my Xeltek programmer), I simply
use an inexpensive thin client with real serial and parallel ports. The
slower ones (<1GHz) can generally be had at junk prices. I use the
HP/Neoware ones, with a CF card used as the disk (although you could
connect a real PATA drive). Small enough that it can be stored on a
bookshelf. Network and USB support is generally very good.
