Not entirely true! WinCE was extensively deployed on x86 thin clients.
It certainly came with Neoware/HP clients installed on the DoM. These
machines are about as close to regular desktop machines as you can get
(ATA storage interface, x86 CPU (VIA), PS/2 mouse and keyboard, parallel
port, serial ports, USB...
I haven't tried it, but it might be interesting to see if the WinCE on
the DoM will boot up on a standard desktop box...
