Not really. Hardware tends to get abused more often at schools due to
student ignorance. Drive heads become dirtier quicker.
Disks were from assorted manufacturers. I'd have
to go pull out some
disks to find out. The same disks were used in CP/M and TRS-80
machines and didn't have as many problems. Diskettes were generally
stored in plastic 10 disk cases.
"...didn't tend [to] have as many problems" is pretty subjective. If this
means that they too had problems then the evidence would point towards a
dirty environment.
