We had one in the 1980s. You are right. It didn't.
I wonder if that was a VAX-specific issue. It streamed fine on J-11 based PDP11 systems
running RSTS. While most VAXen have faster CPUs than PDP-11s, that doesn't
necessarily carry over to I/O.
