That's weird, because an RFC-conformant telnet implementation MUST be
in line mode unless negotiated otherwise by the appropriate telnet
option.
Once upon a time one of my responsibilities was maintenance of the
telnet code (both server and client) for a router product. I was
surprised at how many non-RFC-conformant implementations were out
there. Ah, the na?vety of youth.
