History beginning to repeat itself? 25 pin D-sub connectors were the
most common type, could be obtained from a large number of sources,
had a standard description, and, due to volume, were inexpensive when
compared to other proprietary connectors.
So, you use them for everything.
As far as a computer with nothing but USB for connectivity, the
Cotton Candy from Fxitech comes pretty close--one USB male on one
end, a female USB on the other end and an HDMI connector in the
