Congratulations on your 'new' computer!
the website:
http://www.vaxarchive.org has a bunch of information
about VAXes, including pinouts for the console cable, and what
the little display means. As a hint, the little display should
start at 'F', count down to '6', pause for a while (several
minutes if you have lots of RAM), then down to '0'. If it stops
anyplace forever, you have a hardware problem. I don't remember
what the 'A' status means...
