Yes. Thats my recommendation too. Even newer versions would be mostly
OK. I run the then current release (4.0?) on a pair of 486 laptops with
4.0? But we are talking about NetBSD 1.x.
I am running 1.4.1, netbooted, on a MicroVAX II (9 MB RAM and not
terribly speedy) so it should be quite okay on a '486. It would run OK
in less RAM, too.

4 MB RAM a few years ago. Though I had to build
custom, striped down
kernels and 4 MB was _very_ tight.
