IBM *does* tend to do things differently, but they *do* document the
hell out of everything. The trick is finding the documentation, and
sometimes it can cost a goodly chunk of change.
I seem to recall that "VTL" is an acronym for "variable threshold
logic" and dates back at least to the 1960s.
