is ther= e an extender or some other way of probing these boards
 while powered up?=
Extender boards are very rare. JHP never intneded thse machiens ot be
reparied to compneent-level in the field so there was no official set
of extender baords. And they carefully put the conenctors for
different boards in differnet positions so you would really need an
 extender for each board.

HP put the connectors at different positions so each board would be keyed
differently, but you don't need an extender for each board.
You only need a set of 6 'standard' extenders, of the same height; one of
each:
          10*2
        15*2
        18*2
        22*2
        24*2
        25*2
Each board has one or two connectors from the above set and for those with
two the two are always different. So each board can be extended by
selecting
the appropriate single or pair from the set of six.
You can only extend
one board
at a time this way, but it's a lot easier than the
alternative of a set of
17-or-so
  very specialised extenders.
It's just unfortunate HP used the 25-pin connector, as it is not too
common.
Yeah, great engineering isn't it ?
