I am, as I have an idea that I'd like to build a
small replacement
daughterboard for the WD1010 socket that will hold a microSD card and
act as a hard drive replacement. Much easier to pretend to be a WD1010
than to pretend to be an MFM drive (though, less authentic!)
I've always thought that was the way to go in terms of modern storage.
You may want to take a look at the FreHD:

It was originally designed for the TRS-80, but presents an interface
that's logically close to that of a WD hard disk controller. I talked to
the developer about a year or so back and he felt that it might not be too
much work to make it plug-compatible with a WD chip.
