Ironically, one of the *very* recent last uses of
punch
cards was for
the USDA, for cotton bales.
How recent is *very*? IIRC, it was in the mid '90s
that the "electronic warehouse receipt" took the place
of the punched cards. Or were they still being used
inside the USDA after the gins and warehouses had gone
to an EDI approach?
