Right now it's running Adobe Bridge,
Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign,
and Acrobat as well as Phase One's Capture One, and a few other
things. My performance issues are strictly related to RAM and Disk
I/O. Actually the main performance problem is these **** HD's that
go to sleep on their own when not being used, and there doesn't seem
to be a way to turn off that behavior!

Presumably un-checking 'Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible' in the
'Energy Saver' control panel doesn't have the desire effect?
Jim
Correct, however, since writing that I've learned that running one of
the Developer Tools "SpindownHD" will stop this behavior if
configured right. As long as you don't set a number of minutes for
it to spin them down after, they'll happily keep running as long as
the app is running. A near perfect solution.
