The brown recluse spider just loves places like that. An aquaintance was
bitten by one several years ago. The wound spread to about a 3" diameter
circle of putrifying flesh that had to be surgically removed. Very nasty
little buggers indeed!

rodents are vectors for so many diseases... hantavirus
comes to mind.
It did cross my mind, but Hantavirus is only prevalent in the southwest of
the U.S. (Texas, New Mexico...)
Louis didn't understand why I didn't want to touch any of the stuff with
my bare hands. He just dove right into it. He's braver than I :)
