Subject: Noisy RD53: Cure?
I have a couple of RD53's that work fine, but
that are exceptionally noisy when running. I've heard that this may be due to the
grounding spring, but cannot remember the exact fix.
Allison? Tim? Anyone? Thanks in advance.
For old 5.25" FH micropolis,
Undo two straight screws, just leave them loose, hinge up the circuit
board and leave it.
Use phillips number 1, take the grounding strap off. File the
carbon button on that grounding strap flat with a single cut med or
fine pitch file or use nail file. Put it back in.
Put back together and reinstall the drive into machine and hope that
noise is quieter.

PS: many old 3.5" (some did) and many 5.25" usually have one better
look.
