In fact, the MC14500B architecture is very similar to that of the
PDP-14. I suspect that is not a coincidence, as they were intended
for essentially the same market.
Okay, let's drop down one step.
Is a PLC a computer? (basically not much more than a latch and an
EPROM)? It's programmable, and it can, after a fashion, be made to
calculate, given the right feedback terms. Basically a state
machine.
