I too have a story about coming into contact with an exact machine from my
youth. We never had computers or calculators in school (Slide rules, yes).
Here's my 'amazing coincidnece' story.
As you probably know, I have a Philips P850 minicomputer. Shortly after
getting it, some engineers from Philps gvve a lecture at the university
I was at. I met them after the talk and mentioned I had this old machine.
THey said they would see fi they could find any manuals, etc.
A couple of days letter I received a parcel of manuals for later
machinesi n the fmaily, alas the P850 itsl;ef was too old for them to
have anything. Of course I thanked them for said manuals nad read them
all. Some of the information was certainly applicable.
Now jump forwards about 20 years. I heard of a couple of Philips P800
machines needling homes. Of ocurse I respndend, and got a P851 and P850
wil many manuals, spare boards, etc. The donor hyard worekd at Philips and
had rescued the machines when he retuired. He said that he couldn't find
the user manual for the P851, though.
My reply :'That's beacuase I have it'. I then pulled out of my bag said
manual with the donor's name written on the cover. It was one of the
manuals sent ot me in that parcel. It is now reuntied with the machine.
