Actually I recall reading about this in a local computer mag about 10 or so
years ago. They were talking something along the lines of 1.2gb per tape --
however they were seriousy questioning the device's data reliability. Anyway
I've never actually seen a commercial model.

Hi, I seem to remember reading in popular
electronics,
about software that
would let you use a vcr to backup your computer.
I think it
was about 10
years ago. Does anyone remember or know anything
about
this. My searches on
google have turned up nothing. Thanks for any
help you can provide!

I don't remember the name, but about seven years ago, one of
the machines I
was responsible for was an HP 9000/750 (Unix system) that had
a commercial
product like this attached. I don't remember anything about
it other than
the fact that the tapes cost about $100 each, as they had to
be specially
certified.
