I am unfamiliar with the Imlac line... why would there be such
similarities? Dataram already have something handy?
I'd guess because they could get the core module more cheaply if they
used something at least semi-standard. Also, Imlacs were designed and
built in Waltham MA, probably be ex-Dec people...
