I understood (perhaps incorrectly) that PCMCIA cards
were always 16-bit
cards, and PC Cards could be either 16 or 32 (but were almost always 32).
In other words, PCMCIA cards were PC Cards, but PC Cards weren't always
PCMCIA cards.
I think you're thinking of CardBus (almost always 32-bit).
I've heard PC Cards and PCMCIA cards used interchangeably, and much I'm sure
to the chagrin of the OP, the latter term is the one I use and hear most
frequently.
