There are the 6875, which is a 2x 2.5 MB version, and the 6876, which is the
2x 5MB version. So I would say that the 1215 is identical to the 6875, and
the 1216 identical to the 6876.
Can you confirm that there is no logic inside your enclosures, in other
words that your 5440 drive connects directly to the controller inside the
P850?
As far as I can determine, the only difference between IBM 5440 and
1215/1216/6875/6876 is the number of segments. 68xx has 14, while 5440 has
16 (IIRC).
Should you find a drive: please keep me in mind. The 5440 seems to be very
rare. I've also asked in some Sys/3 and sys/36 news groups, but as yet no
one has answered

I have three Philips X1216's, also based on the IBM 5444; I don't know
how similar these are to the 6875, perhaps you know? They have 5 MB on
a fixed platter, and 5 MB in a cartridge. One of the three is in bad
shape, so I'm pilfering that one for parts to - hopefully - restore
the other two to working order. It doesn't help your immediate need,
but if you do find an IBM drive, and then find that you need the
Philips specific electronics for it, or want the philips front plate,
chances are that I have what you need.
