I'd say this was a pretty esoteric issue. ;) I've done tons of
stuff with OS/8, going back to when I was about 16 (24 years ago,
ugh!) but have never run across this.
Now, I finally got an ASR-33 a few weeks ago, and I want to
connect it to a PDP-8, so I might have to think about this some more! :)
