When I played with this Mac last year, the noise

present. Now that it has been running for a couple hours, the
screeching is gone. I suppose a recapping of the power supply and
monitor would be a good idea anyhow.
I would be inclined to check for ripple on the power supply lines first,
if it's ok then the problem could be on the logic board.
I'll have to wait until I can get an oscilloscope to do that bit of
surgery. One last thing before I turn in... does anyone remember how to
associate a file type with a particular application in MacOS 6? My goal
is to get it so I can click on a text file and have BBedit open it up for
me.
Tomorrow I'll see about getting this machine to talk to a Linux server
running Netatalk.
