I think the reason is you won't have enough distance between the tap
and the endpoint of the transmission line.
Maybe that was the thinking, but if so that is simply wrong. Ethernets are terminated at
both ends (as is any transmission line), independent of the cable length, and the presence
of taps is entirely irrelevant to this.
