The "right answer" (as told to me by a genius h/w type) was to use a single
PAL and a Z8030 - you actually would win by having address lines for all of
the chips registers; you had to demux the AD wires, tho.

It's not that unfriendly. The PERQ 3a uses half a dozen TTL chips to
fiddle with the 60800 bus signals and turn them into the Z8530 read and
write signals. And one output of a PAL as the address decoder. That's
hardly 'unfriendly'...
