switch tube suppliers then that would obviously make a difference.
Assuming tubes manufactured in the same way from the same supplier,
environment and history of the machine are the most likely
explanations.
I recall having two ADM-5 terminals long ago; each had a different
manufacturer for the CRT. Neither suffered from screen rot. (Don't
have the terminals any longer.)
So I rummaged into my two ADM-3As, and they both have the common "Ball" CRT.
Must be machine history, or the time period in which the CRT was
assembled. Assembly quality can vary over time within a company,
especially if they change the materials which are used. However, to
dispute that very fact, both CRTs are dated 1977 -- but who knows what
could change with the period of a year, especially given how many of
these they produced.
