This is called "E and R, elevate and release", but I wouldn't do it more

This was an accepted repair trick with the Atari STs when they stopped
functioning. Any chips not seated properly were driven home. I've done it
and it works but I was always a little tentative when doing it, usually at
about 3 inches. 6" was the recommended height, certainly not 6 feet.
