Is it possible that the MESS output is intended for a
44.1 kHz sample rate
but is actually being played out of your sound card at 48 k samples/sec?
That could explain why slowing it down by 8.5% would make it OK again...
Hmm...there's a thought. I'll check that out. (I'll have to figure out
how!)
