A darned useful set of through-hole TTL DIPs to have around are the
Fairchild       74OL6000 series.  Basically opto-isolated level
translators in a 6 pin DIP.  LSTTL in and (depending on part) TTL or
CMOS out, inverting or noninverting.
Pretty fast for optos too--about 70 nsec.  propogation delay.
Still made, the last I checked.
