You mean DA15F, surely.
before Macs with Onboard-Ethernet came to life. Apple
was eager to
keep setting up Macs as easy as possible. That includes distinct
connectors for distinct functions.
This does not jsutify the change of transceiver supply voltage IMHO. A
connector change is a lot easier than also having to make a voltage
comverter.
