It translates just fine. If I'm at home, I'm almost always wearing a pair.
Now a gentleman from the UK visited my company, and he was wearing
fabric straps over the shoulders to hold up his trousers.
And I said, "I'll have to pickup a pair of suspenders."
And the guy was laughing, saying, "why in the world would you do that?"
And I said, "Because they look nice."
