On my AT, the plastic panel's held on with self-adhesive velcro
strips. By the time I got it in the late 90s, the velcro was just
barely hanging on -- so by now, I'd expect most ATs to need some
assistance retaining their panels...
(I don't know if the velcro was original, or a replacement for something
that was even less effective!)
