There was a strip writer program available for Mac, called "stripper".
I don't think it was ever remotely popular. One of the reasons is that
this was in the dot-matrix printer days and the results from "stripper"
were far from perfect.
FWIW, according to my very feeble memory of the thing. The reader was
too expensive for my casual use--and reports are that it was of less
than optimal reliability.
