My gosh, Windows was around ages ago in a real-mode
version to compete with
IBM Topview. What I can't remember is if Windows 1.0 would run on an 8088
or if it required a 286. Why disqualify anything that can run Windows, but
It would run on an 8088. I actually have a set of original disks and
manuals for a modified (by MS, I guess) Windows 1.x to run on the HP150
(certainly an 8088 machine, and probably a 'classic').
