I don't think I've ever owned an SMD drive that tiny. The Seagate Sabre drives are
quite a bit larger - they contain their own power supply and have their own faceplates for
rack mounting. That's the size of just the HDA (Head Disk Assembly) in the Sabre.
If you can't get this drive to work, I would look in the docs and see what kind of SMD
drive it needs - most SMD drives have dip switches to change sector size and such.
You could very possibly use another SMD drive, and just hook it up externally - as you
might not find one the same form factor.
