I do remember a lot of clocks to there. One thing that
they may have
done
is run the raw data from the drives to the main disk controller. Getting
a IBM from that running if you had one could be hard because IBM had its
own logic chips. They also had computer generated schematic listings
too.
IBM docs really are very good and complete - probably more so than anyone
else's. They are a pain in the neck to read, unless you can speak the
language.
The chips (SLTs) are not too bad. They can still be found on scrap IBM
boards. Interfacing to them is no big deal - the characteristics are known.
